Jane Sherwood Artist

When I was young I loved making things with paper and fabric, drawing and making project books. I went on to study textiles and taught in adult education for a few years,

I later studied Fine Art at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design when I began painting and printing alongside my mixed media work and creative bookbinding.

I have exhibited in London and the home counties, my work is owned by private collectors and is in a national collection.

I am also the author of three biographical novels based on my family history and have written articles for WDYTYA magazine and EDLHS.

Welcome to JaneS Creative Space.

I like to work intuitively in a variety of ways, drawing and painting with acrylics using mixed media over collage and fabric on paper and board. In addition to my mostly abstract paintings, paper collage and unique one off greetings cards I also make concertina sketchbooks, explosion books and create altered books with a range of techniques.

I am inspired by still life and pattern in nature, small things - perhaps a seed head, a pot or a crack in the path, and then by working layer upon layer I wait for something to emerge. My long standing interest in family history is often reflected in the work, a mirror of my inner self.

Please browse through the gallery for a snapshot of what I do. I welcome visitors (by appointment) to my rural studio, a stone's throw from the National Trust property Chartwell House near Westerham in Kent. You are assured of a friendly welcome with a chance to chat and look around my studio, gallery and garden with no obligation to buy.

I would love to hear from you via the email link and for regular updates you can  subscribe to my bimonthly studio newsletter.
