When I was young I loved making things with paper and fabric, drawing and making project books. I went on to study textiles and taught in adult education for a few years,
I later studied Fine Art at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design when I began painting and printing alongside my mixed media work and creative bookbinding.
I have exhibited in London and the home counties, my work is owned by private collectors and is in a national collection.
I am also the author of three biographical novels based on my family history and have written articles for WDYTYA magazine and EDLHS.
Welcome to JaneS Creative Space.
I work intuitively with paint and print to create mixed media paintings and handmade artist books. Experimentation with a wide range of materials and techniques is what drives my work forward. I rarely have a plan when I begin, I let the work lead me - it is a mirror to my inner self.
Inspiration comes from my home, garden and family history. I am very interested in liminal space and the concept of memory - the idea that all things leave their mark in some way. I study the right and wrong side of things and am drawn to negative space. I sway from neutral even monotone palettes to vibrant colour depending on my mood.
Please browse through the gallery for a snapshot of what I do. I welcome visitors (by appointment) to my rural studio, a stone's throw from the National Trust property Chartwell House near Westerham in Kent. You are assured of a friendly welcome with a chance to chat and look around my studio, gallery and garden with no obligation to buy.
I would love to hear from you via the email link and for regular updates you can subscribe to my bimonthly studio newsletter.
